Operations to remove fuel pollution from Baniyas Beach completed

Tartous (ST): With the completion of  removing the pollution by the concerned authorities in Tartous governorate, the beach of Banias city began to witness a remarkable recovery, as there were no smells or traces of the fuel that leaked from the cracked tank in the Baniyas Electricity Generating Company a few days ago.

Engineer Bassam Hammoud, the   man in charge said that within ashort period of time all pollution spots on the beach and in the depths of the sea were removed using Bosra al-Sham boat, and after that , the area was monitored for another 3 days for the possibility of other spots appearing in order to deal with them  and remove them.

He added, "After the completion of this period, the remnants of the pollution that occurred outside the beach are currently being transported and placed in safe places under the supervision of the Environment Directorate," noting that the transfer of wastes from the southern part has been completed, and currently the rest of the waste is being dealt with in the northern part, and "therefore, this file will be closed Fully.

In turn, the Director of the Environment in Tartous, Dr. Ali Daoud, indicated that the operation was carried out in cooperation with the concerned authorities in the governorate, the first of which is the Banias Electricity Generation Company, stressing that the work of removing pollution was completed two days ago, and only the remains of the products that were processed and which were buried in a special place away from the sea remain.

 The Higher Institute for Marine Research in Lattakia has carried out many successful researches and experiments using marine biotechnology, which it has been working on for years to remove oil pollution from marine waters leaking from the thermal station in Banias.

The 41st session of Flower Expo disseminates awareness about preserving crafts and environment

This year, Tourism Ministry and the Governorate of Damascus allocated large areas in the 14th session of Flower Expo for supporting  craftsmen, promoting the culture of recycling consumables and waste, raising  awareness about  the importance of preserving the environment  and activating  cultural activities for children. 
 
The  Flower Expo  , which kicked off on the 18th of July in Tishreen Park in Damascus,  displayed in Tourism Ministry’s pavilion a variety of flowers, trees and heritage pieces , which were  attracted by the  visitors,  especially the model of the  old Damascene house” , according to the Head of the Promotion Department at the Damascus Tourism Directorate, Eng. Abdul Bassit Khattab. 

“Al-Sebky Park’s Friends” Association Seeks to Increase Green Spaces and Raise Awareness about Environmental Issues

Aesthetic and environmental goals that are defined by the “ Al-Sebky  Park’s Friends ” association, which was established about a year ago,  aim  to expand the green area and disseminate awareness about  the importance of maintaining a clean and safe environment. 
 
Dr. Ghassan Karkotli, Chiarman of the association  clarified  to the Syrian News Agency ( SANA )  that the  association’s main objectives are  to increase the green spaces, double the number of trees and flowers, raise awareness  about   social responsibility towards gardens  and exchange experiences regarding this aspect.
