Armenians President: The Turkish regime impedes peaceful settlement in Nagorno-Karabakh

YEREVAN, (ST)-President Armen Sarkissian of Armenia has stressed that the Turkish regime is the main obstacle that has impeded a peaceful settlement in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh province.

“If Turkey is not removed from the general context, it will be very difficult to reach a peaceful settlement in Karabakh through negotiations or to return to the negotiation table within the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe,” Sarkissian said in a statement to reporters on Friday. He affirmed that the Turkish regime is now the biggest obstacle facing the peace process and if this situation continues, Turkey will be a participant in the ongoing conflict.

In the same context, the Armenian President expressed his disappointment over the stance of NATO states, the European Union and western countries on the conflict in Karabakh.

He warned that Turkey, the NATO member, is using the alliance's most sophisticated weapons in the conflict in the region, such as F-16 aircraft, as well as drones and soldiers, without obtaining a mandate from anyone, noting that the United States does nothing in this respect.
